So what's everyone's opinion on the big recall? For me I am not that worried, I know they will fix the problem & life will go on. Anyone experienced an issue with their Tundra?
I'm kinda worried not too much on the defect but the ripple effect of it. Will my insurance increase? Are we gonna have some people trying to make money off of the recall. They'll claim, they got into an accident cause their Toyota vehicle accelerated on its own. There's already an article on MSN about this. This is gonna be a cluster.
Yep, there was one of them tonight on the local news. He took an off ramp WAY to fast and put it in the woods. There are one or two cars that land in the same spot every week. Of course his answer was "stuck throttle".
I havn't done much investigation on the matter, but I heard about an article in a major newspaper where the Obama administration had talked with Toyota and they put pressure on Toyota to do something about this "problem" with the gas pedal sticking. It also seems suspicious that the media loves to report on any accidents involving the vehicles included in this recall, as if they are trying to plant fear in the public of Toyota vehicles. I know several people in my local Toyota dealership, including service managers who have worked on them for years. They say they've never had one customer complain of a sticking gas pedal. No one seems to have actually seen or documented it with any degree of certainty. They say that it's impossible for them to go in and recreate the situation where the gas pedal sticks.
At any rate, Toyota is recalling them to change the pedal, and likely the only reason they feel the need to do that is to preempt the government from doing more. Now, I don't work for Toyota, but I have been driving their vehicles all my life, I know how they generally try to be above board no matter what. They are far more quality conscious that GM. I think they want to have the best attitude and look the best they can to their customers by saying, "Okay, we don't even know if there's really a major problem but we're going to recall them." Well personally, I think Obama Motor Company's is exploiting this. In the midst of this, they're offering potential customers a $1,000 rebate if they'd get rid of their Toyota and come buy a Government Motors vehicle. The thing is, Government Motors still can't sell cars. They're still losing major money because they are basically owned by the unions. They're crying about jobs not being created, yet they're trying their best to cause Toyota to lose jobs in the United States, and suspiciously, they just happened to have all these commercials ready to go for national television saying, "Well, you bring your Toyota in to us and we'll give you an extra thousand dollars for it." Don't tell me that this was not planned out and that the Obama administration wasn't involved. Incedentally, there's also a less publicized Honda recall of 646,000 cars- the Honda Fit. There are 140,000 of them in the United States. The Fit is Honda's best-selling model in Japan. Honda said the recall was to fix a defective master switch, which could cause water to enter the power window switch and in some cases cause a fire. There were three reported cases of fires due to the defect, two in the United States and one in South Africa. Something just smells of government tampering and trying to smear Toyota and Honda (who if you remember were also the unintentional beneficiaries of the cash for clunkers program) so that the sales numbers on the newly government/union controlled car companies will improve, which will improve the image of a political administration. As for me, I will continue to drive my Tundra without concern.
As an illustration of what I am saying, this is an example of the media (that is in bed with the Obama administration) writing and publishing articles that seem to be trying to smear Toyota:
Well the government AKA "GM & Chrysler motors" need to sell cars. What better way then to knock a company they don't have stake in & try to sway them over to a GM. They get more than enough of my $ already. I for one will never buy another GM or Chrysler product. Last years #'s proved that I am not the only one who thinks this way too. Ford showed a profit, how about GM & Chrysler?
I won't be buying any GM or Chrysler vehicles any time soon either. If I had to buy a vehicle from one of the big three, it would be Ford, just because they have paid back their bailout money.
I also read somewhere that the manufacturer of the gas pedals in the vehicles in this recall also makes gas pedals for other vehicle manufacturers. Why aren't these same pedals on the vehicles of the companies other than Toyota being investigated??

As I said in another forum, I'm going to hang a sign on the front of my Tundra saying:
OUT OF THE WAY!
GAS PEDAL MIGHT STICK!
In reverse letters of course.
I'm not worried about anything. The only thing about my '07 Tundra that I don't like is the noisy 5.7.
Got a recall notice for the floormats, read it, and then ran it through file 13.
The idiot media is just going to keep stirring the pot, adding more hysteria and paranoia as they stir.
And me, I am just going to keep driving my dangerous trouble-free '07 Tundra.
I agree 100% with all that's being said in this thread. Maybe more people will move out of the way when they see the truck coming now....as if it wasn't mean enough already!
