new guy here and new truck. would like to know what i can do to increase my mileage on the Crew Max. right now i'm getting 17 on the highway. plan on getting a K&N filter, but not available yet. any other ideas that won't won't void the warranty?
thanks in advance.
Poor dogs nail beds are the weak link in that equation. You get to your destination and find 4 perfect sets of doggy toe nails and a little doggie doo doo in your bed.
OUCH! I guess that'll be 12 sets of toe nails....and LOTSA labbie poo. Nah, more careful if they're in the bed....even in the cab she'll roll around sitting on the speakerbox if not careful. At least I give the signal to "hold on" when I anticipate having to slam on my brakes because some idiot pedestrian walks dead in the middle of traffic with rolling luggage.....damn Californians!
No more than 17 mpg hwy. is too be expected at first under 10K. I did not achieve 18 mpg until after 10K of driving and now at 25K 2 years later and I have achieved on a 250 mile trip up north going 65 mph 19 mpg, but no more than that ever. People who have been getting 20-21 mpg must drive 50-55 mph all the time, but who can stand driving that slow. Besides proper tire inflation or slightly above the 33 psi recommended, nothing will increase your gas mileage over 1 mpg, if that, unless you want to spend big bucks, but not worth it. If you are concerned about mpg., I just test drove a 4.6L V8 2010 tundra double cab SR5 equipped and from 0-30 mph, could not tell the difference, but from 30-60 mph or so, it lagged a bit in pulling torque vs. 5.7L V8, but runs at 100-150 rpms lower which should net a result of 2-3 more mpg hwy also with a smaller 4.10 vs. 4.30 gear ratio. Rating for 4.6L V8 is 14/19 in 4wd (2wd is 15/20) vs. in 4WD for 5.7L is only 13/17. Worth considering or not to get 2-3 more mpg and over a 10% increase in fuel economy with the smaller 4.6L engine? I read an article for the review of the new 4.6L V8 and from 0-60 it is only about 1/2 second slower and quarter mile time is not that much slower either than the 5.7L V8.
